Why a Virgin

The Virgin of Guadalupe is the most beloved image in the Americas. She appeared in 1531 to an indigenous man, in Nahuatl, on his own land. She has always been the patroness of those who are not heard. To re-imagine her for migrants is not translation — it is bringing her home.

Why now

In 2015, Pope Francis became the first head of state to publicly defend the dignity and quality of life of immigrants in the United States. The board of Thinkers, Inc. resolved to make that defense visible — through a work that could travel, and remain.

For everyone

This Virgen belongs as much to believers as to those who are not. She speaks the universal language of loss, hope, and arrival. She does not ask for faith — she asks for attention.
