2016 — Guadalajara, México
The Blessing
On her first public night, the Basílica filled with the faithful. Candles in every hand. The Cardinal Archbishop of Guadalajara granted the imprimatur. Pope Francis sent his Apostolic Blessing from the Vatican on August 15.
II
2018 — Vatican City
Touched by the Holy Father
Pope Francis — the first head of state to defend the dignity and quality of life of immigrants in the United States — placed his hand upon her mantle, in a gesture the artist calls el tocar manto.
III
2018 — Ciudad Juárez to Washington, D.C.
The Crossing
She entered the United States through Ciudad Juárez and walked the same routes followed by those she was made to honor. That September, Constitution Avenue closed so she could pass — followed by more than 180,000 people, from the Capitol to the White House.
